ArtCraft Guide

How to download and install ArtCraft

ArtCraft ships a launcher that installs all sixteen apps, plus separate installers on each app page. Picking between them is the only real decision.

Last updated

Option 1: the launcher

The launcher installs every Craft App and keeps them updated from one place. It is the recommended route on the official site and the fastest way to see the whole suite.

Take the current release rather than a version number quoted in an article. Release numbers change often and older builds can be missing fixes that matter.

On Linux, check the project's Linux repositories page first; a package manager is a better update path than a downloadable archive.

Option 2: a single app

Every app page carries its own installers for macOS, Windows and Linux. If you want to edit one photo, install PhotoCraft and stop there.

Installing sixteen alpha apps to evaluate one editor gives you sixteen things that can break, and a longer update surface than you need.

Single installers do not update themselves. You will replace them manually when a new release appears.

Verify you have the official build

Download from getartcraft.com or the GitHub release pages it links to. The project publishes its source on GitHub, and the launcher releases live there too.

Avoid mirrors, repackaged installers and third-party download sites. A brand-new alpha build is exactly the sort of file that gets bundled with something else on those sites.

If you want to go further, read the source or build it yourself. That is the advantage of an open-source suite, and it is the only verification that does not require trust.

Updates and rollback

The launcher updates every installed app. Standalone installers must be replaced manually, so note the version you installed.

Before updating in the middle of a project, read the changelog. Alpha software can change behaviour between releases, and a rollback may not be offered.

Keep the previous installer if you depend on a specific build. That is the simplest rollback plan available.

Browser builds

Most apps also have a web build you can open without installing anything. It is the fastest way to see whether an app's approach suits you.

Do not judge performance or file compatibility from the browser version. It is a preview of the interface, not of the desktop product.
