Is ArtCraft free? The plans, explained

ArtCraft has a pricing page, which makes people assume the apps are paywalled. They are not. The confusion is worth clearing up because it decides whether the suite is worth trying.

What is free

The sixteen Craft Apps are free and open source. PhotoCraft, FilmCraft, PdfCraft, FigCraft and the rest are desktop programs you download and run without a subscription or an account.

The project's own footnote says ArtCraft can be used without paying for a subscription, and you can bring your own compute and third-party subscriptions.

So the answer to the common question is: yes, the editing apps are free. That is not a trial.

What the paid plans actually buy

The subscriptions fund ArtCraft Studio, the separate AI image and video product that runs on credits. You are paying for generation compute, not for access to the editors.

At the time of writing the page listed three tiers: Basic, Pro and Max, billed monthly or yearly, plus an Enterprise tier with volume terms. The monthly prices shown were $10, $35 and $60 before a 20% limited-time discount.

Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and the credit counts are quoted against specific image and video models. Credit packs can also be bought one-off and are described as never expiring.

Checkout runs through Stripe, you can cancel, and the page states credits are refunded when a generation fails.

Why the split matters

It is an unusual model for creative software and a fairly honest one: the desktop tools are the free, permanent part, and the recurring cost is attached to a service with a real per-use cost behind it.

It also tells you something about risk. A company that gives away the editors still has to fund their maintenance from somewhere, and the AI product is that somewhere. If the subscription business soured, the free apps would be the first thing to slow down.

That is not a reason to avoid them. It is a reason to check that the licenses are permissive enough for you to fork if the project changes direction — and they are.

What you should verify yourself

Prices and discounts change, so treat every number here as a snapshot and read the official pricing page before you buy.

Credit allowances are quoted as approximate outputs from specific models. If you plan to subscribe, estimate your own usage from the model you would actually use.

The free apps have no credit system, so there is nothing to run out of. That distinction is the whole point.

What do the plans include?
